Archaeological animal bone – more than just rubbish! A Talk by Dr. Vicki Ewens
12:30 – 13:30, Huntingdon Town Hall
Excavations on the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon improvement scheme (A14C2H) in Cambridgeshire produced over 4 tonnes of animal bone. This talk, led by Dr Vicki Ewens, MOLA Senior Archaeozoologist, will provide further exciting information about how these remains were analysed and what the A14 animal bone remains can tell us about human-animal interactions across this landscape.
This event is free to attend. Booking is required, although places may be available on the day. Ages 10+ are welcome (under-16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times).

Masterclass Workshop: Archaeological animal bone – more than just rubbish!
14:00 – 16:00, Huntingdon Town Hall
The historic Assembly Room in Huntingdon Town Hall will be transformed into a temporary archaeological laboratory where you will be able to get hands-on with some of the 4 tonnes of animal bone that was recovered during the excavations. This workshop, led by Dr Vicki Ewens, MOLA Senior Archaeozoologist, will provide you with an introduction into the techniques specialists use to analyse these remains. Amongst other things you will discover:
- What the bone can tell us about human-animal interactions across the local landscape.
- Innovative techniques used in the industry and hear more about the different roles and career routes into archaeology
